BEN FERRIS

Ben Ferris was born in 1975 in Sydney, Australia. He studied Latin and Classical Greek at the University of Sydney, winning both the Salting Exhibition and Coopers Scholarship. In 1998 he graduated with First Class Honours in Classicial Greek, after reconstructing “Alexandros”, a fragmentary play by the Athenian tragedian, Euripides. From 1992 – 2004 he acted and directed in the theatre, establishing the Two Black Shoes Theatre Company, with which he performed and directed for the Sydney Festival. In 2002-3 he worked as a literary consultant for the Griffin Theatre Company. In 2000 Ben established the UBS Film School at the University of Sydney which he ran from 2000 – 2004, and in 2004 he founded the Sydney Film School where he is currently Executive Director. Ben’s film “The Kitchen” screened at the Inaugural One Take Film Festival held in Zagreb, Croatia in 2003. In 2004 he won the Grand Prix at the same festival for his one-take film “Ascension”.

SILVESTAR KOLBAS

Silvestar Kolbas was born on 12th of April 1956 in Petrovci near Vukovar. He graduated in film and TV directing of photography at the Academy of Dramatic Arts in Zagreb in 1982. He started as a freelance photographer and director of photography, and since 1985 he has worked as a director of photography at Zagreb TV (today-HRT). During this period, he made several TV plays and short films, as well as one feature-length film ( Diploma za smrt, 1989), and many documentary films. He has been lecturing at the Department for cinematography of the Zagreb Academy of Dramatic Arts since 1995, and in 2006 he became full professor there. He organised workshops in the School of Media Culture of the Croatian Film Association (2000-2005). In the past several years, he has been working as director of photography on documentary films for independent productions, using the technique of digital video (Život na svježem zraku, 2002, Sretno dijete 2003, Sve o Evi 2003, Lora 2004). The feature-length documentary film Sve o Evi, 2003 was the first film he directed, and it was very well received. He publishes scientific papers in the field of film and visual media.

PJER ŽALICA

Pjer Žalica director, screenwriter and producer, was born in Sarajevo in 1964. He studied comparative literature and philosophy at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities in Sarajevo. He graduated in film directing at the Academy of Dramatic Arts in Sarajevo where he still works as a professor of film directing. He directed a number of theater plays, TV programmes, advertising films, music videos, documentary films (e.g. MGM Sarajevo – Man, God, Monster, 1994 ; Mostar Sevdah Reunion, 2000), a short feature film The End of Unpleasant Times (1998), as well as very well received feature-length films Fuse and Days and Hours . Among his numerous international awards, we can single out the Silver Leopard for Fuse at the International Film Festival in Locarno, and the Special Mention Prix Fassbinder of the European Film Academy. He is a partner in the film company Refresh and a member of the European Film Academy.
